The Explorer III Off-Road Handcycle is a unique handcycle designed to tackle extreme off-road conditions and provide unparalleled opportunities to get up close and personal with places that until now have been inaccessable.
Places like mountains, trails and the beach are no longer out of bounds, the Explorer Off-Road Handcycle will take you there and to the top. This unique off-road handcycle has already taken many users to the highest peaks of Europe, including the Alps and the Tatra mountains. The Explorer also took part in a successful climbing expedition to Mount Killimanjaro – the highest peak of Africa.
The Explorer III is the most advanced off-road handcycle of it’s kind with features such as full independent suspension, hydraulic disc brakes all round, Schlumph Mountain Drive and a choice of drivetrain ranging from 16-22 gears. One of the great features of the Explorer is the chest steering used to keep the bike in a straight line or negotiate turns when pedaling. The handlebars are there for flying downhill.

CROSS COUNTRY HANDCYCLE
The XCR Cross Country Handcycle is lightweight, fast and equipped with high quality components including disc brakes on all three wheels.
The XCR is great for most terrains, meaning forest trails, muddy or sandy roads are now accessible. Change the off road tyres to road tyres and the XCR can now be successfully used to compete in marathons and competitions. The XCR will also be available with it’s own trailer great for carrying an expedition pack, tent, equipment for fishing and your wheelchair, in fact everything you might need to spend some quality time off the beaten track.
To enhance your riding experience even further, an electric drive system is offered for the XCR. Thanks specially designed grips, tetraplegics will also enjoy the ride on our handbike.

ACTIVE MOBILITY FOR WHEELCHAIR USERS
e-motion combines active mobility with therapeutic value. Thanks to e-motion, even wheelchair users who aren’t particularly strong are able to get around on their own.
e-motion genuinely boosts wheelchair users’ independence; they can keep themselves active and mobile, while still training their vital functions. The strain on the muscles and joints is reduced and the effort is required to get yourself around and to extend your radius of mobility if minimalised.
e-motion fits most of the wheelchairs currently available on the market. Almost all manual wheelchairs can be retrofitted with the e-motion by installing a simple mounting bracket. The standard wheels are simply replaced with the e-motion drive wheels, enabling the existing wheelchair – which has been set up and adjusted to meet the needs of the individual user – to continue to be used.
AWARD-WINNING WHEELCHAIR POWER ASSIST
SmartDrive MX2+ by max mobility helps you power up steep hills and through thick carpet. It’s intuitive to use and will go for miles on a single charge. With the MX2+ simply double-tap to start ramping up the speed, tap to coast at your current speed and then double-tap brake to stop.
The SmartDrive MX2+ is surprisingly powerful and includes an anti-rollback feature that allows you to stop on a hill and then easily get going again. It is lightweight and easy to install; the system weighs only 5.8 kg and simply attaches on the back of the chair.
The new SmartDrive MX2+ now includes the PushTracker wristband, providing information and individualisation for your SmartDrive. With the PushTracker Activity Monitor and its FREE Smartphone App, you can control your SmartDrive and track day-to-day propulsion metrics—including push count, coast time and more.
POWER ASSIST TO ACTIVE USERS OF MANUAL WHEELCHAIRS
The ZX-1 provides power assist to active users of manual wheelchairs. This Device significantly reduces the affects of prolonged pushing and pushing a manual wheelchair over difficult surfaces like carpet, grass and hills.
The ZX-1 adjusts to your manual chair without requiring changes to the seating configuration to operate. It is compatible with most rigid frame and folding wheelchairs.
The Development of the ZX-1 Power Add-On Device has taken place over a period of 5 years. It is the only Power Assist Device that requires no tools or assistance for attachment, enabling you to leave the Power Assist Device behind when it is not needed.
Due to it’s small size and weight it makes airline travel easy, and the optional travel case ensures that you can arrive at your destination without the worry of your power chair being damaged.
TENNIS SPORTS WHEELCHAIR
The Melrose ultra lightweight three and four wheel tennis chairs offer plenty of camber to give you the edge in your tennis game. This chair places your balance point directly over the camber bar to further increase your on-court manoeuvrability, helping you to change direction and get to the ball faster.
The snug fitting free wheeling wheelchairs respond to upper torso movement to make the smaller changes in position required for smooth tennis strokes. The fit and restraint to the seat allows the chair to become an extension of your body.

RUGBY LEAGUE SPORTS WHEELCHAIR
The Melrose Warrior is our custom built Rugby League Wheelchair.
As a fairly recent sport the technology for these chairs has already been developed with the lightweight construction of the Melrose Basketball wheelchair and the strength of the Melrose Rugby wheelchair. These two ideas have been combined with a lightweight 1″ frame built with 1.5″ bottom rails. The bottom rails are further reinforced with 1.5″ tubes to the capped 1.5″ wing for additional strength.

RUGBY SPORTS WHEELCHAIR
The Melrose Rhino Rugby Wheelchairs, are custom fabricated after careful consultation with the athlete. They are all manufactured to comply with International rules of the IWRF.
Melrose Rugby wheelchairs are built by highly experienced fabricators who are working for a company that has over 16 years involvement in the sport.
Some of the design features include:
- pickbars mounted to the front that are designed to strike and in some cases hold opposing wheelchairs,
- wings, positioned in front of the main wheels to make the wheelchair more difficult to stop and hold,
- rear mounted anti tip guards positioned at the rear to also make the wheelchair more difficult to hold, and
- all our rugby chairs have spoke guards, to prevent spoke damage, and to make it more difficult to stop and hold.
Offensive chairs with various wing alternatives or defensive chairs with variations of pickbars can be built.
Heat Treatment for Frames
Melrose offers a Heat Treatment option for our aluminium rugby frames, this process changes the structure of the aluminium and is said to increase strength. Contact us for the cost of this process.
